For shady gardens and planters, impatiens are a great go-to annual plant. They are available in reds, pinks, and whites, as well as double or single blooms and different sizes up to a foot tall. Some of the most common varieties include New Guinea, SunPatiens, and Super Elfin impatiens. New Guineas are a little larger and can take a little more sun than other varieties. SunPatiens can handle the most sun, from full sun to partial shade. The Super Elfin varieties like shade and tend to stay very short.
