Also know as the tall Goatsbeard, grows to nearly five feet in shade and features attractive white flower spike in mid summer.  Especially deer-resistant, this plant works great in woodland garden, behind hostas, or anywhere you need some serious height in the shade.

Best know as Dwarf Goatsbeard, this astilbe-like plant is great for any shade garden.  Small mounds of finely cut green foliage feature small spikes of fluffy white blooms in early summer.  Goatsbeard likes shady, moist conditions, and is super easy to grow.  Great for borders where the eye-catching flower spikes can be fully apprecaited

A great silvery-grey foliage plants that feels as soft and fluffy as it looks. Great for use as a ground cover or to add a unique ‘soft’ look to the garden.  To prevent ‘Silvermound’ from becoming too leggy give it a little haircut in midsummer.    Plant can be divided in fall or spring, although its a good idea to leave to spent foliage in fall as this acts winter protection.

Neat evergreen mounds of short lush green grass-like foliage that sprout deep pink globular flowers atop 8″ stalks.  An especially long-blooming perennial that boasts a unique flower and is great in the foreground of any garden or borders.  Tolerates heat and poor soil conditions.  Remove spent flowers to encourage re-blooming.

Also know as the Grape-leaved Anemone, this shade loving perennial is as robust as its name suggests.  Pink flowers appear on stalks two feet above attractive dense green foliage.  A great choice for us here in Minnesota as ‘Robustissima’ loves cooler climates.

An extremely hardy and low-maintenance shade perennial features dense clusters of chartreuse flowers above the foliage.  Alchemilla, or Lady’s Mantle is a popluar ground cover for shade and works great on the boulevard, or where other plants can not grow.  My favorite characteristic of this bestseller is how beads of water form on the leaves after a rain.  The leaves dislike water so much they actually form a thin layer of oxygen between the foliage and the water.  Alchemists considered this elevated water to be the purest form of water, hence its botanical name: Alchemilla.

The green and white marbled foliage of this variety can be grown for it foliage alone, although ‘Hercules’ is best noted for its deep, blood-red flowers that bloom midsummer.  Hands down the most attractive blooms from a Heuchera.

Deep rose-purple colored leaves feature dark veining an attractive silvery overlays.  Creamy white flowers appear midsummer.  A great plant for edging or borders – I particularly like this variety when used as a contrast plant in front of ferns.
