Question:

Hello! I’m planning on getting some blueberries started in containers, and I’m learning that they need very acidic well draining soil. I’m looking for pine bark fines/soil conditioner in order to accomplish this. Do you carry that product? I only need 5-6 cubic feet. Otherwise, do you have any specific recommendations for the best potting media? Thanks!

Answer:

Yes, we carry pine fines — they’re perfect for blueberries in container! We also recommend using soil sulfur to help get the pH balance right.
One important step: test your soil pH before adding any amendments so you know your baseline and can adjust accordingly. The soil sulfur bag will have instructions on how much to use based on your starting pH.
For potting media, we’d recommend mixing the pine fines with a high-quality potting mix. A good starting blend is about 50% potting mix and 50% pine fines, then adjust the pH with sulfur as needed. Blueberries like it around 4.5–5.5.
