Question:

I have this area near my deck that i want to block the visual of seeing under the deck. What do you suggest that i use for foliage or cover? I am not looking for them to be very tall, but it’s ok if they are. Maintenance free! I do not want to do any work or minimal work. I love the look of hydrangeas, not sure if you would recommend those or just a green bush-like? This gets morning sun as it faces east.

Answer:

A Little Lime Shrub Hydrangea is a great fit for what you’re looking for. They are a more compact hydrangea variety (growing to be about 3-5 feet wide and tall) and are loved for their easy care.
It would need water almost daily the first month (if you’re planning on planting in summer heat) to get established. Consistent water is a need for all new plants, there is no hack around that. As far as care, it would need its flowers cut off in early spring. We always recommend mulching around the plants to retain moisture and decrease weeds, which keeps care easier in the long run as well.
