Fall Warmth to Winter Magic: Tree Top Container Recipe

tree top pot, container garden, evergreen, holiday decor

There’s something special about this time of year – the in-between season where cozy sweaters meet crisp air, and fall colors start to fade.

At Sunnyside Gardens, we like to call it the seasonal shift. The temps have dropped, tree tops have arrived, and yet we’re not quite ready to go full glitter ad garland. If you’re feeling the same way, this transitional container design is your perfect match! Bridging the warmth of fall to the sparkle of winter with our long-lasting tree top pots.

The Seasonal Shift Container Recipe

A curated blend of natural texture and timeless style, this design will carry you beautifully through Thanksgiving and into the first frost.

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • Tree top pot – the heart of your container, providing evergreen freshness.
  • Faux fall leaves – the component that grounds the container for fall.
  • Wee Bee pumpkin – nestle one into your container for a seasonal nod; use a sturdy stick to secure it in place.
  • Mini faux rose hip stems – a touch of warm red for color that transitions effortlessly into the holidays.
  • Faux bleached moti sticks – neutral, textural accents that bring lightness to your design.
  • Tiger branches – for sculptural height and structure.
  • Tigela pod bunch – for depth, drama, and a natural, organic finish.

Putting Together Your Container

Start with a Spruce Tree Top Pot, the foundation of your design. We have everything you need in-store to DIY your own or bare tree top pots ready to style.

If you’re going the DIY route:

  1. Fill Your Pot: Use old potting soil, black dirt, or sand for structure. Fresh potting soil is often too loose to hold tree tops securely in place.
  2. Add Evergreens: Begin with the tallest and largest branches in the center. Then layer shorter, smaller pieces around the edges to create a full, natural base.

To start the container design:

  1. Place Your Pumpkin: Place your Wee Bee Pumpkin front and center in the pot as the focal point.
  2. Build Height & Texture: Angle your Faux Leaves slightly to one side to add depth and movement. Then, bring in height and drama with Mini Faux Rose Hip Stems, Faux Bleached Moti Sticks, and Tiger Branches on the opposite side of the container for balance.
Designer Tip: Group these taller elements together rather than spacing them evenly around the pot. This creates a more intentional, eye-catching focal point.
  3. Fill In the Details: Finish with Tigela Pod Bunch tucked around your pumpkin and among the faux elements. This adds volume and fills gaps beautifully.

Sunnyside Tip

To help your tree top pot last through the season, give it light sprinkles of water until daytime temps stay consistently below 40°F. The hydration keeps greens fresh and vibrant well into winter.
