Invest in some rabbit-proofing

Hey Minnesota gardeners!  Anyone have this trouble after last winter?  Seems as the snow gets higher, the rabbits snack further up on trees and shrubs in our yards.  Start training your neighborhood rabbits to stay away by applying repellents to bottoms and surrounding low branches of your arborvitae.

Rabbit Damage on tree bark

We recommend Liquid Fence, Shake Away and Bonide brand repellants.  All are all natural, containing extracts of stinky plants, peppery plants, and predator animal urine.  By rotating your spray programs with different repellants, the rabbits and deer will learn to stay away and may stay away for good.  If you’re really serious about keeping pests from making a buffet of your plants, consider wrapping the bottoms of your Arbs with burlap before the snow flies to create a physical barrier.
