Do you strive to have the perfect garden year round? Our garden maintenance schedule can help you do just that! Use our calendar and gardening resources to keep you on track with important garden maintenance tasks that you should be doing each month.

March

April

  • Begin applying weed preventers and animal repellents

May

  • Early May – finish spring clean-up
  • Water, as needed
  • Mulch
  • Begin weeding
  • Late May – plant annuals & perennials, direct sow summer veg., plant summer bulbs, begin fertilizing

June

  • Direct sow summer veg.
  • Plant annuals
  • Plant perennials
  • Water, as needed
  • Mulch
  • Weeding
  • Fertilizing
  • Begin deadheading
  • Apply sawfly spray, as needed

July

  • Plant perennials
  • Water, as needed
  • Weeding
  • Fertilizing
  • Deadheading
  • Late July – direct sow fall vegs, divide bearded iris
  • (Can plant annuals and divide perennials, but not ideal)
  • Staking plants, as needed

August

  • Direct sow fall veg (finish by mid-August)
  • Plant perennials
  • Water, as needed
  • Weeding
  • Fertilizing
  • Deadheading
  • Early August – finish dividing bearded iris
  • Late August – divide peonies
  • (Can plant annuals and divide perennials, but not ideal)

September

  • Divide peonies
  • Water, as needed
  • Weeding
  • Deadheading

October

  • Water, as needed
  • Mulch (not ideal)

November

  • Water, as needed
  • Mulch (not ideal)
  • Finish planting spring bulbs by mid-November
