Named after the Catholic Cardnials whose deep red robes the flowers truly resemble, Lobeila Cardinalis reaches about two and a half feet and shows long stalks of deep red flowers.   North America indegineous peoples used root tea from this plant to treat a variety of intestinal symptons.
