One of the most widely used groundcovers, creeping phlox form a carpet of colorful tiny flowers in early spring.   Creeping phlox come in pink, red, and blue and when massed together make a powerful statement in the landscape.   Creeping phlox are best used when planted on a slop or hill, although they also make a great edging groundcover.  Trim back after the plant is done blooming to promote spreading and to make a more attractive groundcover during the summer months.
