rudbeckia goldsturm black eyed susan perennial

This 1999 Perennial Plant of the Year has been among the most popular perennials for the past 50 years.  ‘Goldsturm’, translated to English meaning ‘gold storm’ and commonly known as a Black Eyed Susan, features and abundance of mid-sized yellow daisy like flowers with black eyes that bloom in wonderful abundence from late summer into fall.   ‘Goldstrum’ has few rivals as a landscape plant – its thick basal leaves spread thickly enough to choke out weeds and form an attractive groundcover in spring, its native roots make it at home in any natural medow garden and attract overwintering birds and butterflies, and in winter the study stalks and black seed heads provide excellent winter interest against ornamental grasses.
