Itoh Peony

A note from Monrovia Growers about Itoh Peonies.

Peonies with flower buds

A note from Monrovia Growers about Itoh Peonies.

Named for Toichi Itoh, the first hybridizer to successfully cross a tree Peony with an herbaceous Peony in the 1940’s, these popular gems are in high demand, prized for their huge, beautiful blooms and lush green foliage. Historically, Itohs were challenging to grow and thus hard to find and rather expensive. But that’s all changed. We are proud to partner with leading Itoh breeder, Don Smith who has spent over 20 years refining these exclusive selections. Our Collection has grown to ten cultivars, including four Monrovia exclusives. We are thrilled to introduce two new exclusive Itoh Peony varieties, Takara™ (which means treasure) and Misaka™ (beautiful blossom).
