Tomatoes, apples, blueberries, raspberries and other tasty fruits are fun to plant and watch grow into treats for your dinner plate, but did you know Minnesotans can also grow grapes?  Local vineyards in and around Minneapolis and the St.

Tomatoes, apples, blueberries, raspberries and other tasty fruits are fun to plant and watch grow into treats for your dinner plate, but did you know Minnesotans can also grow grapes?  Local vineyards in and around Minneapolis and the St. Croix River Valley rely on varieties of grape vines that hard hardy to our climate.  There are many varieties to consider, but some we like include Frontinac, St. Croix, and Lacross.

Sunnyside Gardens carries grape varieties as they are available to us and would love to get you started growing your own grapes.

Some things you need to know before you get started:

Grapes like full sun and prefer to send their vines up or along a support.  Be sure to prepare your soil with compost and peat moss before planting, and be diligent about water this first year.
